I have worked with Jo both
as a colleague and as her manager. Her
technical role has involved the following aspects.
Managing staff
Jo successfully manages a
team of 3 technicians supporting all areas of fashion and textiles. She is
excellent at liaising with technicians outside of her specialist area and has a
reputation for ‘getting things done’ She understands the demands from academic
staff and students and communicates what can be achieved. She is keen to raise
the profile of technicians and the contribution they make to teaching and
learning
Managing projects
In 2006 Jo took the lead on
the move of fashion and textiles from one site to another. Considerable project
management went into ensuring the resources were up and running for the
beginning of the semester. In 2012 Jo monitored the move of the print room and
the refurbishment of the textile facility ensuring continuity of use.
Teaching and Learning
Summer Schools
Summer Schools are something
Jo especially enjoys delivering. She is able to plan, deliver and teach
practical and CAD projects to many age groups.
Master classes
She has in depth knowledge
of many print and dye processes. This alongside her fantastic CAD skills means
she is able to deliver specialist, high level master classes.
Personal Development
Jo is always looking for new
ways to use existing techniques. She is able to pick up new skills quickly and
develop new ways of doing things.
